Latest News on the New Rheem Theatre:
Moraga, CA, (May 29, 2018) - The Moraga Community Foundation, in partnership with Zemrak Pirkle, is pleased to announce plans to re-open the Rheem Theatre in June. Zemrak Pirkle have operated the Theatre for the past eight and a half years and the two entities have joined forces to bring movies back to the Rheem.
"Opening the theatre in June will allow Moragans to enjoy movies throughout the summer break as they have for so many years" said Tom Schnurr, president of the MCF, "Derek Zemrak and Leonard Pirkle are the logical team to continue operating the Rheem Theatre - we are pleased an agreement could be reached."
"Zemrak Pirkle is excited to be working with the Moraga Community Foundation" echoed Leonard Pirkle. "This interim arrangement will see theater goers once again walking through the front doors and infusing community energy into the Art Deco theater. We all hope for the eventual long- term solution that will see the beloved theater remain a vibrant and integral asset to the Moraga community for many years and generations to come."
Only the Main Theatre will open mid-June to allow time to address needed repairs and cleaning throughout the building. A community clean-up day is scheduled for Saturday, June 2 beginning at 11:00 a.m. and volunteers are invited to bring cleaning supplies, roll up their sleeves and help make the entire first floor shine for the opening.
The event comes as a direct result of the M.O.U. signed between the Town of Moraga and the current owner which allows for reduced rent during this interim period. The long- term goal of the Foundation remains that the Rheem Theatre be preserved as a community asset and work is underway to complete the purchase of the Theatre.
